Joyful Connections

The ITI Academy of the International Theatre Institute

Joyful Connections brings together contributions from participants and organisers of the ITI Academy.

Joyful Connections

With texts by Dora Yuemin Cheng, Sara Amini, Alex D. Loo, Lloyd Nyikadzino, Deepika Arwind, CHEN Zhongwen, Malin Nagel /Dr. Juliane Zellner

What does it mean to create, connect and resist in a world shaped by inequality, conflict and crisis? The ITI Academy brings together artists, theatre practitioners, academics and civil-society actors from different regions and contexts to explore these questions through exchange, artistic research and collective practice.

Joyful Connections gathers voices that emerged from the ITI Academy and its LABs. Through essays, artistic reflections, a manifesto and an interview, the contributions address artistic freedom, resistance and resilience, care and collaboration, bodily autonomy, decolonisation and the possibilities of international exchange. Rather than documenting a finished process, this reader invites us into an ongoing conversation: about the conditions in which artistic practice can remain free, connected and transformative, and about how solidarity and collective agency can be nurtured across borders and differences.
