ITI Prize 2026
Nicoleta Esinencu was awarded the International Theatre Institute Prize in Chemnitz.

Following a sold out performance of Memory Distortion. M I X T A P E with her collective teatru- at THEATER DER WELT, Nicoleta Esinencu was awarded the International Theatre Institute Prize for her outstanding artistic achievements in international cultural exchange through theatre.
In her laudatory speech, Kathrin Tiedemann pays tribute to the director:
“Nicoleta Esinencu’s theatre is a theatre of disobedience. It draws aesthetic capital from the cognitive dissonance that stirs in our consciousness when we are reminded that our prosperity, our consumption and our security come at a price that others must pay. This dissonance is an extremely unpleasant, unsettling state. It arises when our perceptions and actions do not align with our beliefs and values, or with our self-image...”
