The LESERAUM is a participatory format for theatre translators, theatre makers, authors, and others interested in the field.
In the LESERAUM we present, in each episode, recent texts from the field of contemporary German-language drama or translation; so far, these have always taken place in the presence of the authors or translators. Together, we read excerpts from two of the author’s plays (prima vista, i.e. without preparation, with assigned roles) and then discuss the text itself, the creative process and the possibilities for translating it into other languages.
The LESERAUM takes place online and monthly, usually on a Wednesday afternoon. It is moderated by playwright and translator Ulrike Syha.
The next series of LESERAUM starts in October 2026; dates will be published here.
Previous guests: Emre Akal, Raphaela Bardutzky, Svenja Viola Bungarten, Anaïs Clerc, Lisa Danulat, Maja Das Gupta, Björn SC Deigner, Thomas Freyer, Olivier Garofalo, David Gieselmann, Anna Gschnitzer, Caren Jeß, Sarah Kilter, Fayer Koch, Felix Krakau, Dirk Laucke, Philipp Löhle, Laura Nauman, Magdalena Schrefel, Anne Jelena Schulte, Miriam Unterthiner, Maja Zade and Felicia Zeller.
Mehdi Moradpour will be our guest at LESERAUM in October, and Ivana Sokola in December. Together with the authors, two recent texts will be presented and read on each occasion.
In November, we’re launching a new format: in collaboration with the Primeurs Festival, we’ll be presenting German translations from French. Taking part will be Gerda Poschmann-Reichenau with her translation IN LUFT AUFGELÖST by Rébecca Déraspe, as well as the translators Pauline Fois and Sula Textor with their translation ix:variationen by Marcos Caramés-Blanco.
