A celebration of the diversity of the performing arts: With the 5th Federal Theater Prize, Claudia Roth, Minister of State for Culture and Media, honors medium-sized and smaller theater companies - and thus the artistic range of the German theater landscape. The jury selected Ballhaus Naunynstraße in Berlin for the main prize of 200,000 euros. Three awards, each worth 100,000 euros, go to Theaterhaus Jena, Chamäleon Theater Berlin and LOFFT – DAS THEATER in Leipzig.

Minister of State for Culture Claudia Roth: "With the Federal Theater Award we honor the valuable work of small and medium-sized theaters as places of of artistic social experimentation. In this way, they repeatedly create new spaces for thought in current debates and opportunities for social encounters. At the award-winning theaters, inclusive, diverse and critical and power-critical work is possible. This makes them pioneers both in the theater landscape and in the cultural landscape as a whole cultural landscape, and that deserves our recognition."

The 2023 Federal Theater Prize is endowed with €200,000 and recognizes nationally remarkable and exemplary innovative work. This main prize is awarded once in total and across all three application categories. In addition, an award of €100,000 will be presented in each application category. The overall jury decides on the award of the main prize across all categories.
