Theater der Welt will take place in Chemnitz in 2026! Together with The Festival Academy, Die Theater Chemnitz and the European Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025, the ITI is honoured to announce this OPEN CALL, which is aimed exclusively at curators from the alumni community of the Festival Academy and the ITI Academy.
The co-curation program offers up to eight young curators from the Festival Academy and the ITI Academy Alumni Community from around the world the opportunity to co-curate the artistic program of the festival in a two-year process. The process will be supported by various capacity building activities and guided by experienced mentors (festival directors, local cultural practitioners and cross-industry experts).
We are looking for curators who are committed to the transformative power of the arts and want to be part of new innovative curatorial approaches. The approach we are pursuing with “Theater der Welt 2026 in Chemnitz” is based on the belief in the power of the collective imagination. In a world increasingly defined by borders, divisions and singular narratives, we need to tell counter-stories, and we are looking for curators who are not only artistically adept, but also visionary in their commitment to equality and inclusivity.
