HOW TO CURATE DIVERSITY AND OTHERNESS IN GLOBAL PERFORMANCE ART

(Essay with an interview with Claude Jansen)

In the text “How to Curate Diversity and Otherness in Global Performance Art” Lisa Gaupp explores how diversity and otherness could be curated without labeling, paternalizing, or exoticizing while at the same time taking into account the severe impact that neocolonial structures and practices of social inequality and exclusion have on the ambition to decolonize curatorial practices. In that regard, she compares and criticizes the application of various narratives of "diversity and otherness" in the field of global performance art using different post-colonial and transcultural perspectives.
