On May 7 and 8, 2022, the ITI Annual Conference will be held in a special context: at the Theatertreffen and as part of the fourth edition of the Burning Issues conference. Global issues will be brought into the discussion about structural changes in the German theater landscape, and topics of the last ITI annual conference "Hybridity and Equality?" will be perpetuated.
Burning Issues will take place for the second time at the Theatertreffen. The conference has been advocating for more (gender) justice in the performing arts for years. Under the title "Performing Arts & Equality", the last conference in 2020 at Kampnagel focused more on the question of how theatres and training institutions can dismantle barriers and act in solidarity. In 2022, with "Performing Arts & Equity", the thematic focus from equality to a more globally conceived justice will be opened up and it will be asked which sustainable changes enable a just theatre on and off stage. In this regard, structural debates and transnational artistic practice must be thought together. In lectures, discussions, artistic interventions and international good practice examples, hierarchies in municipal and state theatres and in independent production houses, in ensembles and collectives will be explored and inspected for their patriarchal, racist and colonial imprint.
Burning Issues x Theatertreffen 2022 "Performing Arts & Equity" is a project of SAVE THE WORLD in cooperation with the Theatertreffen and in collaboration with the Akademie der Künste and the International Theatre Institute – German Centre. Supported by the Fonds Darstellende Künste, the GVL and the Rudolf Augstein Stiftung.
