As a global initiative of the International Theatre Institute, World Theatre Day is celebrated annually on 27 March. On this occasion, renowned theatre personalities, such as Jon Fosse, Augusto Boal and Helene Weigel, write messages in which they address the significance and impact of the performing arts in a social context.
We are delighted to be able to share the message for WORLD THEATRE DAY 2025 with you. This year, it comes from the Greek director, theatre educator and author Theodoros Terzopoulos. We would like to invite you to spread the message via your own channels, to read it on your stages or to celebrate the performing arts with your own activities, festivals or campaigns!
The original in Greek and further translations can be found on the World Theatre Day website.
ITI will also announce the winner of the ITI Prize 2025 on World Theatre Day, which will be awarded at a ceremony in June 2025.
