The International Theatre Institute invites translators of German-language drama to an international workshop as part of the Mülheimer Theatertage from May 26 - June 4, 2023.
The workshop stands for the close connection between practical translation work and the examination of current theater, staging and writing practice in the German-speaking world. The focus is on the concrete work of the translators on texts from the festival selection, the joint visit of the performances and the examination of the invited stage versions.
The program is supplemented by public audience discussions after the performances and conversations with authors, dramaturges, publishers and directors. This makes it possible not only to gain insight into the cultural and political environment of the plays presented, but also to learn about the latest developments in contemporary drama, trends in directing, and structural changes in the theatrical landscape. A two-day seminar focus on SURTITLING IN STAGE PRACTICE will be offered for the first time and will provide an introduction as well as the opportunity for practical testing.
